Through the stories of six British towns, Professor Alice Roberts unpacks some key eras of British history:  Roman Chester, Viking York, Norman Winchester, Tudor Norwich, Regency Cheltenham and Victorian Belfast.

She visits key architectural sites or ruins and unpacks their history whilst photo-realistic CGI faithfully recreates the original building or monument. Gradually she builds up a detailed picture of what life would have been like in the town during its respective era.

At the end of each episode CGI reveals how the town would have looked in its historical period.
